Coolant Replacement
1997 GL1500C
(Every 2 years or 24,000 miles whichever comes first)
- After engine is cool remove the radiator cap. Be sure to loosen the set screw holding the cap to the radiator or damage to the filler neck can result.
- Remove the drain bolt on the water pump and drain the system coolant.
- Always dispose of old coolant in an environmentally safe manner and keep away from children and animals.
- Reinstall the drain bolt with a new sealing washer.
- Remove the left side cover
- Remove the reserve tank mounting bolt (side cover boss).
- Disconnect the breather tube from the reserve tank.
- Place a suitable container under the reserve tank.
- Open the reserve tank cap and drain the reserve coolant.
- Empty the coolant and disconnect the siphon tube.
- Rinse the inside of the reserve tank.
- Install the reserve tank in the reverse order of removal.
- Fill the system with the recommended coolant through the filler opening up to the filler neck.
- Fill the reserve tank to the upper level line.
Bleed air from the system as follows.
Shift the transmission into neutral.
Start the engine and run it at idle for 2-3 minutes.
Snap the throttle 3-4 times to bleed air from the system.
Stop the engine and add coolant up to the p
